I deeplink all the time...and people deeplink to me all the time. GOOGLE would cease to exist if it weren't for deeplinks. About 6 months ago a competitor put up their new 'Terms of Service' or something like that. They said, "No linking to us without our permission..." I promptly contacted one of their advertisers and said, "Gee...I'd love to link to the page you advertise on...but the owners of the website have said I can't do that without their permission. That's too bad, because I don't have the time to request permission. Secondly, no webmaster in his right mind is going to ask for permission-they just won't link to your page. So...sorry you'll end up losing customers...blah..blah." In a matter of days-the NEW 'terms of service' was void of any linking directions. It's just a thought that happened to work. (BTW-I never did link to that site again-I was still ticked at them because they had written the terms with me in mind.) About the anchor text: I always considered it a "mini-editorial". Meaning that I can say whatever I want about them, as long as it is within journalistic standards. (I know- I know -that's an oxymoron:>)
I think it depends on the webmaster.
