I would recommend that you just spend one hour a day on it and spend your other time on other valuable persuits/avenues. Just chip away at the stone and every month your links will increase. Use some of the 10-12 hours you are spending on soliciting links to create the unique content related to your industry that only you can create. You may find other "on theme" web masters contacting you for links as a result. Water the roots of the tree and the branches and leaves will thrive and take care of themselves eventually planting seeds of their own.
