good idea, you'll need a reliable way of identifying them.
you better have a long list of dead blogs.

what do you think will beat the sandbox? I don't have trouble coming out of the sandbox, I just wait 9 to 12 months for my sites to season and then one day they pop out of their google gestation period and go to the front of the class. my problem is staying out of the sandbox entirely. I can get rid of the common cold, too. I just take several medicines to alleviate the symptoms while staying in bed for 5 days. then a day of withdrawal suffering from the medications and it's gone. see, I'm cured! the problem is in NOT getting it as in the case of a cold and not getting into it in the case of the sandbox.
I do think gaining links in a somewhat steady rate is a good idea in that a site should always be getting links, but if the linking rate was too steady could that be a identifiable or be a bad thing? a steady rate accented with something similar to stephen j gould's "punctuated equilibrium" (PE) [en.wikipedia.org...]
**Some detractors among evolutionary biologists wryly termed punctuated equilibrium "evolution by jerks."
