I used to love FF but now, not so much

Bookmarks are all wonky so after trying every other suggestion to fix bookmarks and profiles as suggested by support.mozilla I tried uninstalling FF, and then deleting the Profile folder and the Program folder also as suggested in support.mozilla.

Before I deleted the folders, I copied the bookmarks to a separate disk both as a backup and as an html file so I could recover.

Next, I downloaded the latest FF from Moz then rebooted before installing it. Did this 4 times but somehow my old profile kept coming back.

Now I've been writing programs and using computers since the early '80s and I know when someone says "it's the computer", it is ALWAYS the user - but ...

My old profile couldn't be found by Search and it was not in the Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profile\ fgolder because, I checked, and there was no such folder on disk.

Now, tell me I'm nuts, but also tell me where else this old profile could be hiding so I can delete it too and get a brand, new, fresh copy of FF - please, pretty please with sugar ....
