Most Firefox users that I know, if they had to choose one or the other, would choose new tab instead of new window.

When I am in Firefox (right now) I usually prefer new windows rather than new tabs. I have a high-res (17" laptop) screen, so I like to have both windows visible at one time. For example, right now I am typing this reply in one window while looking at your post (not the first one) in the other window. I selected and dragged the quote from one window to the other.

If you find a way in html to open a new window in a new tab, just make sure you allow the user to open it in a new window. Else you may <make unhappy> off Firefox users. (even if they are in the minority).
