As to surfing "like everyone else does" - I use IE to check how sites I develop display in it, they way I do with a lot of other browsers. And I recheck said sites in all browsers on a very regular basis. Other than to make sure sites I develop work the way they're supposed to in IE (or the other browsers), why on earth should I have to surf like whatever percentage of other people do? The whole point in NOT using IE is that there are better browsers out there. I'm using one of them. I don't get dreck on my hdd when I use FF. I DO get dreck when I use IE, and in main, the only sites for which I use IE are ones which refuse to behave even marginally in FF - like the FC sites during the last couple of weeks. Regardless, you know, I wasn't trying to start a war over browsers. I was simply asking whether the behavior on Fortune City was something only I had experienced or had others herein run across this as well. [I probably should point out that the "scum" in question is neither ad ware nor mal ware - it's stuff like tracking cookies, adaware's notations of "possible browser hijack attempt" etc. Not harmful like some stuff out there, but I STILL have to remove it....]
Well, rogerd, if since I started using FF (quite a few months now) the only times I EVER get scum are the times I'm forced to use IE to access places like Fortune City, I'm pretty sure it's a given that IE is the culprit, along with free hosts like FC....
