To change the default search URL (and many other settings), type "about:config" (no quotes) into your address bar. This is a "page" inside Firefox itself, with many browser configuration settings displayed and editable.

Look for the setting "browser.search.defaulturl", right-click, and change the value to "http://www.google.co.uk/search?lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=" or whatever URL you like.

If you bookmark the "about:config" page, you'll have easy access to tweak the other settings, too.
