Since shortly after I first had internet access in 1996, I have used HTML files as browser start pages on my computer. The first one I made with Netscape Composer. I never used the likes of Yahoo and Google as a start page. Why would I, when I can make one myself? So I have no use for Opera's speed dial, other than open my start page a little more quickly, as that is the only one I have on speed dial. Come to think of it: why can't I open a new tab with my start page? Why does a new tab need to be empty? My start page contains a Google search box at the top (I never use the one from the browser). Then come links to the news sites, forums, other search engines I use. There are links to the admin pages of my websites. Shops, internet banking, train and bus schedules, maps. And I use other start pages about webdevelopment etc., linked to from my main start page.
I never liked using bookmarks (and favorites). Why would you use an application menu, when you can make your own start page?
