I was surfing a topic I was researching and came upon a site that had a good deal of information, though none of it was organized very well. I could live with that, but I could not live with the embedded, annoying, midi files! The Webmaster failed to include any form of user controls to either turn down the volume or stop the music altogether; I did not want to turn down my speakers as I was listening to a new CD at the time. Opera had the answer: F12/Quick Preferences - "uncheck" Enable Plugins - Die midis, die! I was able to peacefully finish reading the material I was researching. Not long after that, I was at a major news and information site... suddenly a pair of "lobsters" start crawling across my screen! I knew it wasn't "flashbacks" of any sort - it was most likely the precursor to some yet unseen advertisement. Sure enough! Now an "ad-box" drifted serenely (not!) across my screen... F12/Quick Preferences - "uncheck" Enable Javascipt - Die lobsters! Die! ;) The Quick Preference settings are so user-friendly that they are becoming an essential part of my surfing routine; I enable/disable features at will... surfing in peace, with a "total control" browser is VERY nice indeed!
I keep finding (and using!) practical features in the Opera browser that continue to convince me that nothing else even comes close. Opera offers complete user control... Like many other "tools," you just have to learn to use them!
