I would say the opposite - blogs are overvalued. They get normal Google SERP listing and many searches show "top blog results" at the top. And Google built an entire system to search only blogs. [edit - comparison to a "regular" site not news]

But 800 words of content is 800 words of content no matter what the medium is for delivery.
