I just came across WP-SuperCache which is a newer and better version of WP-Cache by Donncha O Caoimh who besides being Irish like me is also a WP guru.

"This plugin generates static html files from your dynamic WordPress blog. After a html file is generated your webserver will serve that file instead of processing the comparatively heavier and more expensive WordPress PHP scripts."

Now I just have to try it out
