Three boxes, style them pretty

I almost wrote in the first post that the "three boxes" model is fine if you are sure the input fits that format (which country's phone numbers are allowed?), but please, don't have javascript auto-advance me to the next box as soon as I've entered three characters and please please please, don't auto-advance on something like an onFocus event when three chars are detected. I've come across forms where you literally can't correct something if you make a mistake entering your area code.
