actually no, both would be read the same - in Jaws they are anyway.

PCInk, you got the acronym vs abbr the wrong way round.

from the oxford dictionary:
acronym: a word formed from the initial letters of other words (e.g. laser, Aids).
abbreviation: a shortened form of a word or phrase.

Have a look on google [google.co.uk...]

That's why I said the differenciation isn't clear. You have over 1 million pages discussing the differences between the two and which should be used over the other.

Until all the browsers and screen reader support the aural styling speak:, I guess we are 'stuck' with the default setting in screen readers and testing our pages to see how it's pronounced.
