Of course, Oracle is a public company, and thus should be expected to act in their own best interests.

Indeed -- and what's Oracle's interest in supporting database that users can use for free rather than pay obscene amounts of money for Oracle's DB license? InnoDB is what was making MySQL actual "RDMS", not just flat file reader, this is done by Oracle in self interest to make sure that MySQL won't convert into Oracle's challenger.

Indeed Oracle acts in self interest, but don't be mistaken to think that this interest is alligned with those who produce free databases.
