---- Oracle Acquires InnoDB

I'm not really concerned.

Me too -- I use PostgreSQL as I had enough of MySQL when they:

a) changed authentication scheme in 4.1.x
b) changed license for their access drivers (former ByteFX client)

The source for ByteFX is still available, but the primary developer is now working for MySQL (good for him by the way), and in complex non-trivial projects it is not just easy to find someone to pick them up and maintain.

This is the reason why Oracle bought InnoDB, they would have preferred to buy MySQL, but the price must have been too high so they decided to strike it in place that would make it harder for MySQL to be accepted as replacement for Oracle.

Check the last version of ByteFX driver on Sourceforge site -- its March 11, 2004 and that version does not support new authentication scheme (AFAIK), this is what MySQL did to users of the driver and this is what Oracle will do to MySQL.
