The Vista was needed in order to secure XP's prominent and ever enduring place in history. Just like the WinME was needed to secure Win98 in it's place. I find it quite interesting really, in that the Vista reminds me of the days when WinME did it's dookie ... sending mates in a half panic back to Win98/98SE. I too can agree that XP will be the prominent choice for OS for years to come amongst the Windows users, with MS having to extend, and greatly, supporting the product beyond 2015. Just like with Win98, XP will go out the door kicking and screaming all the way. Out of all of the Windows operating systems, since Windows 1.0, I'll have to say that Win98 and XP were the shining stars. If Microsoft stays true to form, I wouldn't expect another great OS out of them until right at about Tuesday of 2016.
MS should just leave WinME ... er ... um ... rather ... Vista the way it is. No sense in tossing it about with good dollars going after bad now, is there? I didn't think so either.
