Best case scenario is 5Mbps because of the overhead in 802.11b in windows. Linux is a little better because of the way the 2 different os's handle networking. There is a lot of redundantly in 802.11b. The same signal is sent out over several channels for reliability. I think G is faster because they took some of that out. The original spec overdid the redundancy.
