sounds like a defective card, can you go back to a not the newest driver package and test that out?

With the VGA drivers can you get the card to do a proper resolution? Just asking because if you can maybe run the card for a while with the crappy drivers... if it runs fine over ----period of time---- then when you install drivers and it goes back to instantly pitching a fit... it could be drivers not agreeing with it. Which would mean start playing wack a mole with driver versions till you find a fit.

also what kinda motherboard are you running? maybe some corrupted board drivers? I recently had to reinstall my north bridge drivers because i kept getting machine exceptions.

Lots to poke at with this one... but gota start somewhere.
