"The second part of the connection is the link between the router and the ISP (internet provider). Has something happened with the cable/broadband/DSL modem connection (cat ate the cable?)? Can you use a real network cable to "patch" into the modem to test the connection? Have you tried rerunning the ISP's connection procedure or contacting the ISP directly?"

Tried again today.

Wireless connection excellent, 11Mbps, etc., but still unable to connect to any websites or FTP, etc.,

Then ran a real network cable and again said I was connected but nothing happening.

Tried with my own laptop and experienced the same.

So I am left thinking it is something to do with the telephone company / ISP.

The telephone works incidentally, but next step will be to contact the ISP to see what they can do. One reeason for not doing this earlier is that I am in Spain, and if you know anything about Telefonica . . .
