Hey all,

I have bought a new pc about a month ago. Everything seemed to be fine. But after downloading a couple of movies all-night long for a few weeks, my pc got noisier.

I've opened the side of the case and tried to listen to that sound, but couldn't determine if it's CPU fan or my Power Fan (which blows air into my pc).

Somewhere someone suggested that sticking a pencil into a fan and stopping it for a few sec's could determine where the sound comes from. Is it safe to do that?

Anyway... That noise isn't big, but seems like there's some problem. My processor is Athlon 64 3200, arctic-cooling (CPU fan) and some Power Fan. CPU fan shows 937 (something, RPM maybe?..., I have asus probe soft. and it measures the speed, btw. m.b - asus) and P.F. shows 8800 then after a few secs goes to 8400 then 8000 them little lower, but usually it spins at 8437. I haven't noticed those speed jumps earlier.

That sound seems like something would touch the fan and it gives this sound. I checked the wires and they don't touch cpu fan, don't know about p. fan... Maybe graphic c. fan, but barely... Noise is similar to when there's some part poorly fastened and it gives this sound cause of vibration (but barely, I think it's one of those fans). For a moment when I move my case (just a little) the sound changes... or maybe it's just my ears...

So question for start, is it safe to try to stop the fan with a pencil for a few secs and determine where that noise is coming from?
