If you're looking at the Prescott then the phenomenal heat it generates is legendary and substantially more than the sub 30 watts of heat from earlier AMD CPUs; in fact it generates more heat than any standard AMD processor available today. Do you see why you can't compare makes and need to do it at the processor level? BTW, the old Prescott is a 478 pin CPU that has been replaced by Intel's LGA775. And if you are comparing with an Opteron 2x then you can't even use the standard P4 and have to use a Xeon (which will make it more interesting because of the EM64T) but probably less relevant to home use.
