I disagree with director being on the way out.

They both have different funtions.

If you want to design a page and have graphic elements etc - but nothing more than a normal html page, flash is what you want.

If you want to make a highly interactive enviroment more akin to the desktop, use director.

Directors lingo programming is much more powerful than flashes action scripts. While the two seem to be similar programs, their target audience and use seperate them. Think Visual Basic Vs. Photopshop. Director being VB and flash being photoshop.
