A better platform isn't what draws a mob, action on the platform does. In other words a mob draws a mob and facebook is much bigger so people gravitate there. google knows this, that's why they won't put all of their pieces together and say it's on just yet. they want to build up momentum on each piece before launching them into one... you only get one launch.

Building a better site isn't going to be nearly enough to topple facebook.
