(i hope this is the correct subforum for this type of question)
Im having this community, type of "black board"/forum site, and the action i want visitors to take is to fill out a form to post something on the site (no signup/login required). so my question is where would i put the call to action button? curently the main menu only has 4 items, and one of them is my "Post topic" button (but a link to the "make posting" page also appears each time a search returns zero results or when they end up on expired postings via outdated serps).
i had a look at different blog posts and articles about the whole "call to action" best practices and increasing conversation rates etc., and apparently the cta is expected to be somewhere in the content or sidebar, but never in the menu area, is that correct? I had the "Post topic" button in a stand-out color in the menu for a short time, but i got some feedback from people saying it looks like the current page is marked in the menu, rather than encouraging them to click it.
So what should i do? leave it in the menu? keep it there but separate it from the other menu items or move it out of the menu?
