I think it's awesome that T is using and making contributions to Cassandra, Thrift, Scribe, Pig, Hadoop... all open source.

Their challenges are similar to but different from huge data gatherers like Facebook, Google, Yahoo, all of whom have massive Hadoop installations. They are also willing to share their mistakes and solutions with the world. That's a policy & culture I can appreciate.
