---- Twitter's Revenue Generation Opportunities
martinibuster - 4:44 pm on Aug 19, 2008 (gmt 0)How will the advertisers target specific demographics (pc enthusiasts, right wing, left wing, homemakers, parents, teens, tweens)? How will they segment twitter users into narrow niche channels in order to broadcast advertising that appeals to them? How will the advertising system divide discussion topics into channels (travel, health, domestic products)? What kind of conversion rates do you expect from twitter users?

Not necessarily from advertising. Twitter's inventor is the same guy who came up with blogger, Evan Williams [economist.com]. The product was never designed with monetization in mind. Twitter is a typical "build first figure out monetization later" project. Despite it's web 2.0 pedigree, the lack of built-in monetization is a feature that makes it resemble web 1.0 failures, and a few sucesses. Which is almost another way of saying, Build first and cash out when G/Y/M buys us.
