I looked at the page source again today and it looks like they've changed the Javascript code from yesterday so that the counter keeps going up, at least for now. :)

Actually it looks like I've been seeing two versions of the login page.

On version number one the counter has stopped running:

On version number two the counter continues to rise:
https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=mail

Pretty interesting...
