There is a recurring theme here about pre-emptive unwanted redirects, whether language or mobile. I hope site designers are taking it to heart.
I personally know* several Germans who have explicitly set their computer's language to English because they got so tired of getting (badly) translated versions of websites. How much worse it must be if your language isn't a widely studied living Indo-European language.
Someone, somewhere, must like sites that start playing background sounds even before you've switched to their tab.**
If you say "I'd like my site to do such-and-such" and someone points out that this is likely to annoy the user, what's your answer? Does the answer change according to whether it's a personal site vs. one that is intended to make money?
* Yes, OK, "personally" = online.
** Because if nobody anywhere liked it, sites wouldn't do it. RIGHT?
