I would agree that mobile devices are getting bigger, but I'm not going to carry one of those around with me permanently.

I'm always going to have my smartphone on me. If I need to know something quickly whilst I'm out I'll use that rather than wait. A couple of sites I use regularly have mobile versions and I appreciate that.

Whether you have a mobile version of your own site is a judgement call. You have to look at your traffic stats from mobile and work out whether its worth the time and effort.

Also look at your competitors, if they have mobile sites then may be mobile users will go to their site in preference to yours?

I don't think you can say that just because you don't like mobile versions of sites you don't have to build one for your own website. There's more to it than that.
