I'm familiar with how to set up nameservers and the like, the trouble I think in this case is the domain registrar does not allow me to input an IP along with the nameserver value. So I end up having the nameserver set to ns1.mydomain.com + ns2.mydomain.com for mydomain.com.

Telling it to look up where mydomain.com is by going to ns1.mydomain.com or ns2.mydomain.com is not going to work.

The solution, I think, is to have a registrar that allows me to enter IPs with the nameserver values.

I just wish someone around here could confirm this!
