Hi Imaster and thanks for the invite.

I have not talked publicly about canonicals in quite a bit. All in all nothing I’ve ever said or done with regards has changed over the last four years. It’s probably the one thing I can assure you that if you read about at Webmasterworld is still the same. That and content, and most of what I think about linking. I spent years here telling it like I see it and I stand by probably nearly all of it, still today. Even with all the hoopla over this Florida update, it’s all the same.

I have never, in all the years I have utilized canonicals, had any problem with them. I’m not sure beyond large corporations, universities and larger content sites none has used them more as a structural tool than I have if so, it’s time to stand up and speak so I can take a break.

So of course my suggestion is to read up around here on canonical with paynt to get my take over the years. I could say more I suppose and it’s probably time for an update. If I were to suggest anything it is to utilize canonicals as a tool to structure your site. When it comes to themes, each site can take different directions and a lot of it depends on the ability to create content to meet the needs of visitors.

Yes, it’s true a canonical can help to boost a sites opportunities, I stand by that. The problem is knowing how to do it and believe me when I say a tool can be used in many ways. It really depends on who is working the tool and how they work it with the site. There are no standard canonical rules. Just step out of the box and be creative.
