Girls and women chat more and are generally more sociable than men. They are less inclined to be interested in solving technical problems, etc. but given that the knowledge required to get "online" has been diminishing (i.e. men have been working hard to solve technical problems and make it easier) then there is nothing surprising in women being successful in the internet environment. Additionally, women have been showing a tremendous aptitude in advertising and marketing for decades so it's hardly surprising that they should be good at growing websites.
