Looking through AV serps these days it's amazing to see all those
Refreshed in past 48 hours
listings in the top10. They really seem to have geared up their crawling activity over the last months. It looks like AV presents the freshest top10 serps of all major engines.

One can't help to meditate a bit about the connection between top10 listings and freshness.

Is it that top10 listings get more easily in the 48hours refresh cycle, or do fresh listings get a boost in ranking?

And before you ask - yes, there are a lot of listings, which are clearly not paid for inclusion.
