3G has been available in Japan since 2001 and so far the killer applications have not involved web surfing. The bigger companies are pushing video conferencing, but that has still yet to catch on as the network coverage and hardware has not yet reached critical mass yet. Downloaded java games and ring-tones seem to have been the biggest beneficiaries of 3G here so far.
#2 is probably the transmission of photos taken with the new camera enabled phones (but that could arguably fall under e-mail)
