It is definitely possible to get doorways to stick, you just have to be on your best behavior when creating them. You need to spend a little extra time on your doorway. give it somewhat unique content (no more than 60% of the content can match another page) And don't use any shorcuts (no hidden text, no doorway templates, etc...). Also try to keep all other doorways away from scooter by using a robot.txt file.
