People might look up pictures displaying posh home and office interiors. If a company is persistent in these I guess website like pinterest can help branding and driving traffic back to the original website.

Pinterest is a very poor way to find a home that you'd actually want to BUY. I can't think of a worse way of finding a home than browsing Pinterest.
If real estate agents want to waste their time with unproductive traffic, they are free to do so.
If they want to present their houses to actually buyers, there's the mls.

There are 1000s of method of traffic acquisition. Pinterest in one of them. Why loose this traffic?

Because it takes time, and that would be wasting it.

I can see it being good from a branding perspective but not much more than that. I certainly wouldn't think of it as a waste of time though if you're doing something that's planned / thought out as opposed to pinning just to pin.

Pinterest might be ideal for a company that builds homes in several places. They could show off their style then, since they aren't showing off individual homes.
That way, if pictures did get pinned (and you watermarked your pics for your company) they would drive some business back home.
