What is the simplest way to check date availability from form submission

 4:44 pm on Nov 6, 2008 (gmt 0)

Have a photographer client whose main line of work is Weddings - through his site he would like users to be able to check if he is available on a certain date - so via form submission select month & day then submit and then user would see if he is avaiable on that date - obviously client would have to update via FTP I presume a text file or something on a frequent basis as and when he gets bookings - but are there any simple scripts that I could use with out going SQL and other DB stuff that's over my simple head?

Don't know whether this should be php and be in another thread etc - so apologies

Many thanks
