It is absolutely ridiculous that making an android app is so hard. I make a living writing php and JavaScript and I feel like I am extremely fluent.
I wanted to make a simple app to stream my shoutcast server. No luck, been at it 5 hours so far and haven't got a darn thing.
Why do developers have to speak greek? You have to be a total rocket scientist to figure it out. They are not easy to read nor do they spell stuff out. they assume you have some level of knowledge, here is a TIP, make your stuff easier to understand and more people will use it. Isn't that the point of technology? to enrich and make our lives easier.
Ive been mad a few times in my 5 years as a developer, but this is one of the tops!
In the android developer guide they have a section for mediaplayer
[developer.android.com...]
but they do not give any real examples, i tried pluggin in the code, but where do I plug it in? Do I need to include other files? IF so, why the heck dont they say so! Freakn nuts people!

I feel exactly the same way about python.
I spent three weeks going nowhere then deleted the whole lot never to return.

Well after staying up till 5 am I was able to get a crude app workign, but i have no idea if what im doing is correct.
now i would like to load text from a text file, seems pretty simple to do right? in php you could look this up and in 5 min or less learn how to do it. not the case with good ole android! been at several hours now and documentation might as well not even be there, just a waste a time unless you are someone that invented android and then maybe it makes sense
Make the DOCS better with several real world examples explaining stuff or at-least have some kind of newbies area where people learning can post examples!
VERY FRUSTRATING AND DISAPPOINTING!

Apples and Oranges. Don't be too hard on yourself. It's a different world.
If you asked me to write the server side of that streaming service as a Drupal plugin in php and javascript, I doubt I would finish in less than five hours.

I think in a vote most people would say java is harder than php. thanks for letting me vent, I was able to get a crude ap working in approx 12 hours time.
