I'm really on the fence about buying one. Yes the demos look pretty cool, but I haven't seen them in stores, so I haven't had the hands-on experience to see what that screen is really like.

I wonder whether this thing would really wean me off of printed books, to which I am utterly addicted (I usually buy+read several new books a month)

What about the breadth of Kindle's reading options? I especially love reading weird+obscure books found on dusty shelves in musty used bookstores. Am I going to be limited to reading nothing but best-sellers, new releases and trade paperbacks, or will I actually be able to find reference materials and out-of-print literature?

If I buy a Kindle and then find out that I only have 200 Stephen King books to choose from, I'll be really disappointed
