Sorry if this is answered somewhere else, but do mobile browsers generally support ssl (including WAP over HTTPS)?

My understanding is that supporting https depends more on the capabilities of the phone and less the version of browser.

Right - depends on the OS more than anything. Wap does not suppport https. Most modern handheld browsers do (Safari on the iPhone - Netfront, Opera, and PocketIE all support https)
