WebmasterWorld Newsletter | June 2017

WebmasterWorld Newsletter
Google teases us with SERPs changes each and every month, and in June 2017 there's no exception. This time the significant changes appeared only at the end of this month, and there are many observations of traffic gains and losses. Looking at the reasons for the shifts is what we're trying to get to the bottom of in our update threads. How's your Google ranking and traffic this month?

Google AdSense is in the news, too, with a neat tool from Google that appears to have been taken down for maintenance. We've also been watching the earnings, and exploring ways to earn more from a Google AdSense publisher account. There have been some great tips in the forum in the last few weeks, along with the welcomed participation of Google's AdSense representative.

The change from HTTP to HTTPS is still creating topical debate, along with the problems some are experiencing along the way. Our Members are helping those making their first steps into the switch, explaining the challenges, and exploring the solutions.

Of course, there were also some security scares this month, with an unusual alert for “Stack Clash” privilege escalation bug in Unix operating systems.

The big news that broke today was the European Commission fining Google Euros 2.42 billion ($2.7 billion) for abusing dominance as search engine by giving illegal advantage to its own comparison shopping service.

One more topic worth mentioning is the relatively quiet announcement where Facebook is making a core shift and putting a new emphasis on Facebook Groups. Don't miss it.
