Hi, a friend of mine who is an actress has worked on setting up a new website and is a "Free Flash Based Website"

The website looks very good... but is it really seo friendly for the likes of Google? (being Flash based)
I obviously cannot name the free website builder here... but wonder whether she might be better off adding a blogger to it or wordpress blog..

Yes, but never with the power of plain text, though some progress has been made in pulling some content out of Flash. The success of a Flash-based site is going to rely heavily on the effort put into alternate content. The link below is a little dusty but not a lot has changed since.
