| Making a web site about yourself yourname.com - and what to put on it |

msg:4128876 | 5:11 pm on May 7, 2010 (gmt 0) | I hear this from clients and friends alike all the time - "I want my own website - no...literally, a website about me, that I can run. Like MyName.com (JohnSmith.com if you are john smith). What it usually boils down to is they want their own facebook page, but in the form of their own website, with a few specific customizations usually. I am certainly not "new to web development" but I wanted to post here, to try and get a take on what type of software people usually use for these type of sites where instead of using a template like fb, myspace, blogger, they want their own site. Thanks

msg:4128901 | 5:41 pm on May 7, 2010 (gmt 0) | WordPress? I briefly had wp on my name .com spot but quickly realized no one cared what I had to say. Now it's a parked domain. He/she could always just redirect the domain name to their facebook page and save the hassle....

msg:4129018 | 9:49 pm on May 7, 2010 (gmt 0) | Redirecting to their Facebook is a pretty good solution, or better still having a simple page with links to all of their on-line presences My facebook page, Follow me on twitter and so on. I think in many cases a lot of people simply want this as a vanity domain, but in reality its hard to get people to read about "someone" unless they are interesting. Mack.
