Hello im not trying to prommote anything here but I have created 4 websites in my time and the abouve gude is a great resource. There are a cuople of hosting companies out there that have really good Block by Block input templates that are really effective for the beginner.

In my view, nothing beats learning the basics. Once you have done that you will understand the templates and can canibalise them to build your own designs. That in turn will expand your knowledge until you reach the point where you have written your own templates.
