Deploying SSL/TLS
SSL CPanel 11 Certificate Questions

Hey all,

I want to use SSL/TLS for a section on my new site. My host is shared, using CPanel 11 with apache and unix. I want to apply SSL to a section where I will pass username and password information. My site is written in PHP/XHTML Strict 1.0 ...

I have never used SSL/TLS before and I am very confused about it. I understand it is a protocol, but I really dont understand how to use it. I understand I need a key and a certificate? I have tried generating the private key and certificate within CPanel, but when attemping to use the HTTPS:// protocol extension, nothing happens and I get a fatal 552 error in Opera.

I have searched google with no avail. I end up on sites trying to sell me certificates. I know I should probably pick up a book on SSL and understand how the protocol works in more depth first but all I wish to obtain is a basic working example.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Welcome to the forums Calvinh,

Perhaps this recent thread [webmasterworld.com] is of use to you?

Although you've googled, googling webmasterworld threads [google.co.uk] might provide a more fine tuned answer...
