Bing giving sitelinks for keywords

 5:58 pm on Oct 14, 2011 (gmt 0)

this is really horrific, Bing giving sitelinks, as many as 8 for highly competitive keywords and anyone not no 1 will get killed.

What are you thinking about Bing?

 5:55 am on Oct 15, 2011 (gmt 0)

Huh? As a daily Bing user I've not see this... but (and if can be done without violating ordinary rules here) some example(s) are necessary. Else we have an unusual statement.

 2:20 pm on Oct 15, 2011 (gmt 0)

@tangor, Huh? I dont make unusual statements which insinuates I am fabricating a situation.

Yesterday, for several hours and for many highly competive converting keywords, the first result came back with eight sitelinks.

Perhaps Bingdude can confirm that this experiment is taking place

However, I did find one, but for a non competive converting keyword having 8 sitelinks

Perhaps you should use Bing more often tangor ;)

Been using Bing for years. And after reviewing the PM you sent me as an example, have no doubt you'd find that many... most folks aren't that enamored with templates or search that detailed. :)

One of those, yeah, you can get a bunch of who shot John if you go looking for it.

Nothing to see here, move along, nudge nudge wink wink.

 11:38 am on Oct 17, 2011 (gmt 0)

@tangor serious u think i am an idiot with the nudge nudge wink wink?

The example i sent you is from my site! for several hours all the main keywords in my niche had those same 8 sitelinks. That would make anyone nervious. You are making a joke out of it because YOU did not see it. This forum is for concrete dialoge, not your idiot stupid insulting insinuations and wink winks.

It's here today in the UK. I think it was ten site links (two per line) for the number one site in the search I did. Just made the same search and the links are still there - eight actually, two per line with "show more results from #*$!xx.com". When it fisrt happened I thought I was on google by mistake.

If the mods let me, I'll give the search term. It happens on both Firefox and IE.

Stangely if I alter the search slightly the same site still comes out top but not with the site links.

Rlilly... nothing I said was disrespectful. I do realize that in this era of Panda Panic (and OMG, is it Bing, too?) humor might not be appreciated. I have waited, testing bing meanwhile, and am NOT seeing consistent results as which prompted this thread. Until it is consistent and long term, I'm more inclined to believe (as happens with all search engines from time to time) that something was broken in an update and hasn't been fixed yet. (Or the way I'm see it, was fixed...)

I'd be more worried about the big box folks moving onto the web... there's only so many "top spots" and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what chances the average webmaster has of achieving same compared to their advertising spend, etc.

While I'm posting on Bing just thought I'd add that sitelinks are still appearing for certain search terms a couple of weeks after my last post. I've also noticed it on two additional search terms over the last week. From a UK user.

 10:40 pm on Nov 11, 2011 (gmt 0)

Is anyone going to share the actual phrases in question here?

 1:14 pm on Nov 14, 2011 (gmt 0)

I would but it's against the TOS of this forum. I have just checked one of the terms (the other I forget now) and the sitelinks are still there. If you want I can sticky you the term, although if I do, the reason behind why sitelinks appear for that search term would be most appreciated.

 5:55 pm on Nov 18, 2011 (gmt 0)

When i posted about this, it was widespread for many highly competitive terms across the board for my niche biz. It lasted about 3 hours and then disapeared.

However for some lesser competitive keyword terms, sitelinks are still showing. My site currently enjoys this for one keyword.

 8:23 am on Nov 21, 2011 (gmt 0)

I too am noticing 8 sitelinks as well...Your not seeing things Rlilly.

 3:19 am on Dec 22, 2011 (gmt 0)

Now Bing is showing not just one but two two sets of site lineks (one block of 8 and one of 4) on the same page of the SERPS.

The serach terms I'm using are ones I check up on frequently and two sets on one page is a new development. I wish I knew what Bing does to determnine which sites / search terms get site links because they do dominate some of their SERPS.

 8:50 pm on Dec 28, 2011 (gmt 0)

You guys do realize we constantly test new things, right? I mean, there's a good chance, over time, you'll see many new things being tried out - all to see what searchers like best.

 9:38 pm on Jan 25, 2012 (gmt 0)

Yes we do Bindude, but three months on the sitelinks, for the very same sites, are still appearing. How long does testing take?

These site links occupy about about 3 times the space of other entries. It does appear that some specific sites are being given preferential treatmet in Bing serps. True or not true? If not true, how long does testing take? A week, a month, three months (now) or forever?

 7:30 pm on Jan 31, 2012 (gmt 0)

There's no specific time frame for testing.

...and earlier in this thread I asked if anyone could share a phrase so I could try to repro what yo're seeing. I find it hard to believe the forum doesn't allow posting of phrases. Domains and links I can understand. Mods - school me on this one please... really - we can't post the phrase we're talking about to get help?

 8:05 pm on Jan 31, 2012 (gmt 0)

What are you guys talking about?

The site links with two columns of 4 links each under the main listing?

Or something else?

 12:57 pm on Feb 2, 2012 (gmt 0)

I've stickied Bingdude a term which results in a sitelink entry for the top result. It has appeared like that for several months now.

ken_b - if you type in your domain name into Google you will most likely see your site appears top of the SERPS. It has an enhanced entry with, as you say, two columns of additional links to the main pages in your site. Yes, that's the type of Bing SERPS entry we are discussing.
