Site being hit with same search string Whats going on? johnmoose msg:4007826 7:56 pm on Oct 15, 2009 (gmt 0) Hi all, my first post (or two) here so be a little patient with me.
I noticed that my site is being hit the last hour or so from all over the place with exactly the same search: "what are...." and its always from bing but with different IP address and locations, even from Europe.
Have you seen that too?

welcome to WebmasterWorld [ webmasterworld.com], John!
perhaps bing is boosting their numbers again:

I'm seeing it again today myself. I'm seeing Bing queries like "http://www.bing.com/search?q=topic" to hit my discussion board, even though this search doesn't bring up my site.
Is there a list of Microsoft IPs to block to keep these hits out, without blocking their spider?

Nevermind... I was looking at old tracking data. I was just unnerved as I was getting a lot of Microsoft traffic earlier. johnmoose msg:4010592 6:55 am on Oct 21, 2009 (gmt 0)
Looks like it had indeed something to do with that.
It only lasted for about 50 minutes so in the end it didn't bother me, but it was strange to see.
