Is Live Search unofficially dead?
I'm starting to worry it will be a Google world in the years to come..

I'm having issues getting my websites indexed by Live Search. I'm also Dutch, so please ignore my spelling and grammar errors.

Google loves my site

The website I'll use as an example is 5 years old, has ~200.000 pages, ~150.000 images, lots of links, lots of fresh content and lots of traffic. Google's site: command tells me it has indexed ~200.000 pages. Google's Webmaster Central tells me it has indexed around 170.000 pages from my XML sitemap. Clearly, Google has no issues indexing / crawling my website.

Live Search hates my site

After five years, there are just 52 pages index by Live Search. I checked all steps in their recent blog post "Optimizing your very large site for search" to see if there was something I forgot, but there wasn't. In this blog post they say:

In the end, everyone on the Live Search team has a vested interest in seeing all sites reach their optimum rank for the content they provide to users. Some might mistakenly believe that large sites have an automatic advantage with search engines based merely on their size and quantity of content. But that large size can actually be a disadvantage when webmasters donít thoughtfully consider how their sites are used by end users. If you take the time to optimize your large sites for your users, those optimizations will have a very positive effect on your ranking with search engines.

Either they are doing it wrong, or I am having troubles with my duties as a webmaster.

Live Search Webmaster Centre is riddled with bugs

I validated my website about 3 years ago. I added the XML sitemap the moment Google announced the support of MSN and Yahoo. Today it told me it could not validate my site. I checked if LiveSearchSiteAuth.xml was still present on my site. It was. I tried to force it by removing the site and adding it again, but now it said the URL was invalid. I tried it about 5 times and gave up. My frustration level was rising to great heights.

I decided to go to the Live Search forum. I tried loging in, but Firefox just gave me a blank page. I tried it again and again, but it just didn't let me log in. That's when I decided to Webmasterworld to rant about my experience.

Live Search Webmaster Centre is a joke, Google's Webmaster Central is a joy.

When will Live Search stop sucking?

Everyone says Microsoft is Google's biggest competitor. Why? It seems Microsoft isn't even trying to beat Google in the search game, or am I wrong? Has Microsoft ever announced anything that should frighten Google? Did they ever do anything to please a webmaster? Should I just ignore them and pretend they don't exist?

Live search is going out just like ASK.com did ie: no updates and frequent 404's and dead sites refreshing in the index.
I give live search another 4-8 months more of life before it hits 1-3% search share.

"I'm starting to worry it will be a Google world in the years to come.."

People should have worried about that six years ago...
