The tools are a little spartan compared to what Google offers. The only surprise was when Live claimed my site had 631,000 backlinks. That's about 3.5x more than Yahoo claims, hmmmm....

It's a great step , but I question who will use it if only a small % of search is performed on Live. Webmaster's time is stretched as it is.

Live.com is a fiasco. Their forum is a joke and their tools are nothing more than queries you can run on their search site. They think our site has 12,000 pages (we have 1,200). When asked why we don't even rank for our own site's name (which is not a common term) they tell me it's the competition. I've heard that when the folks at Google want a good laugh they switch to Live.com
