Two years ago Microsoft introduced some handy advanced query syntax (inanchor:, inbody:, intitle:, inurl:) to match Google's methods and even went further with LinkDomain and LinkFromDomain.

Then a year and a half ago, they disabled it claiming it was being abused for data mining.

(3/28/2007) We are doing our best to get this back online as soon as possible in a manner that allows folks that use this functionality for real queries. We have a few good ideas up our sleeve on how to enable this...

So, just sitting on their hands eh? Allowing simple searches which have profitable ad placement but blocking more advanced queries?

(on a side note, while Yahoo still allows advanced queries, they never seem to work correctly - Google is the only one with a solution that works properly)
